In short

UK finance firms get the safest AI wins from document handling: extracting data from statements and forms, drafting file notes and suitability letters for review, reconciling transactions and answering routine client questions. The FCA applies existing rules, chiefly the Consumer Duty, to AI. That means testing outputs for fair outcomes, documenting decisions and keeping people accountable.

What you get

  • Faster fact-finds

Documents read and data extracted into your systems.

  • Quicker file notes

Meeting notes and letters drafted for adviser review.

  • Audit-ready

Every automated step logged and explainable.

How does the FCA view AI?

The FCA has not created AI-specific rules. It applies existing frameworks, mainly the Consumer Duty and the Senior Managers and Certification Regime. Firms using AI in pricing, advice, servicing or communications should test outputs for fair outcomes, monitor for bias and harm, and keep records showing how AI is governed.

We build that evidence in: test sets, output monitoring, human approval steps and logs that make it clear who signed off what.

Which finance tasks suit AI best?

Document-heavy, rules-based work. Extracting data from bank statements, payslips and ID documents, drafting file notes and letters for adviser review, categorising transactions for bookkeeping and answering routine client questions all save significant time without handing decisions to a machine.

How do you handle sensitive financial data?

We minimise data sent to any model, use providers that contractually do not train on it, encrypt data, restrict access by role and keep processing in the UK or EU where possible. We support your DPIA and keep audit logs for compliance reviews.

Can AI make decisions about customers?

We design AI to support decisions, not make them. Under UK GDPR, solely automated decisions with significant effects carry extra obligations, and under the Consumer Duty firms must avoid foreseeable harm. Keeping a qualified person deciding is both safer and simpler.

What does good AI governance look like for a small firm?

It can be simple: a named senior person accountable for AI, a list of approved tools and tasks, human review of client-facing output, testing before launch, monitoring after, and a log of decisions. That fits the Senior Managers and Certification Regime and gives you evidence if the FCA asks how AI is used.

We provide a short governance template as part of the roadmap and fill in the technical parts for each tool we build, so compliance is not left until the end.

Questions people ask

Still unsure? Ask us on a free 20-minute call.

Does using AI breach the Consumer Duty?

No, AI is not banned. The Duty requires good customer outcomes, so firms must test AI outputs for fairness and suitability, monitor results and act on harm. We build testing and monitoring into every finance project.

Can AI write suitability reports?

It can draft sections from fact-find data and adviser notes, which the adviser then reviews and approves. The adviser stays responsible for the recommendation. The saving comes from structure and first drafts, not from automating advice.

Is AI useful for accountancy firms?

Very. Transaction categorisation, document collection chasers, query handling and drafting client emails are strong use cases, especially around year-end peaks.

How do you prove what the AI did?

Every automated step is logged with inputs, outputs, model version and the person who approved it. That gives you an audit trail for internal reviews and regulators.

How long until we see results?

A focused workflow such as document extraction or file note drafting is usually live within four to eight weeks after scoping, with time savings measured against your baseline.

What does it cost to start?

Our fixed-fee AI roadmap is £1,950 + VAT and includes a risk review of each use case. Builds are quoted at a fixed price after scoping.
